What is Testing?

Testing is the process of ensuring your product meets the quality and functionality requirements of your global customers. Whether you are releasing an app, a website, software, elearning courseware, or a physical product, there are three types of testing required for successful international releases.

Localization testing addresses cosmetic issues. It includes:
Checking that all text is translated
Checking that pop-ups, dialog boxes, status bars, menus, etc., are properly localized
Ensuring text is consistent: menu item matches menu title bar (if English does); abbreviations; software references, etc.
Correcting truncations, display issues, and incorrect formatting (such as a footer no longer fitting in the space provided)

Linguistic testing addresses contextual issues post-build. It checks for:
Translation accuracy;
Terminology usage;
Typographical and grammatical errors;
Display (truncations) and corruption issues;
Consistency between printed documentation, online help, error messages, interface resources, and command-key sequences.

Functionality testing addresses behavioral issues by verifying the functionalities of localized software, GUI, websites, etc. It ensures that:
No defects have been introduced into the localized product;
The localized product works exactly the way the base product does.
It also includes compatibility testing (i.e., running the localized product on various operating systems with multiple browser/display setting configurations).

What Are The Benefits of Testing?

● Increased Traffic
   The top three positions on a search engine results page receive more than 60% of the page’s click-throughs (Chitika, 2013). Ranking in these top-tier

● Optimized Experience for the Local User
   Engaging language-aware or native-language engineers to test a product's user interface in real-time on locale-specific browsers or operating systems helps ensure market relevance.

● Eliminates Costly Rework
   Finding out post-release that your product has shortfalls can negatively impact both brand and product perception. Shortfalls can also be costly to fix.
